Medical Age Management uses the safest, most technologically-advanced, and medically-proven laser and IPL systems for all of our skin renewal treatments. Following careful evaluation by our Physicians, the best treatment will be selected for your specific goals and needs.
IPL: Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is concentrated light, which is filtered down to a narrow range of wavelengths to target specific things in the skin we would like to eliminate. IPL works by a process called “selective photothermolysis.” What this means is that a specific wavelength, or range of wavelengths, of light will react with specific pigments causing the cells containing those pigments to heat up or lyse (lysis means rupture of the cell membrane and cell death), without damaging the surrounding skin. So we select a specific filter, or handpiece, to target specific lesions. For example, a typical green IPL handpiece (named because the color green corresponds to the wavelength 510nm) gives off a spectrum of light in the 500 – 670 & 870 – 1200 nm wavelength range. These ranges are particularly well-absorbed by vascular and certain pigmented lesions on the face, such as in rosacea. IPL Technology is currently considered the Gold Standard for Photofacial Treatments.
Laser Resurfacing: Our skin changes over time, losing its youthful look and giving way to brown spots, wrinkles and laxity. The latest advances in laser technology bring us fractional laser technology – a procedure that yields remarkable results with no downtime. High energy laser light is divided into fractional beams which leaves columns of normal un-damaged tissue in between the beams. Over a series of treatments this can effectively smooth out lines, wrinkles and scars, remove brown spots and other irregularities and tighten the skin. Many of the effects of treatment become visible right away, whereas others – such as new collagen formation, which leads to continued inner tightening of the skin – build up gradually and become more evident over time.
Hair Removal: The machine we use for permanent hair reduction has a special actively-cooled tip that makes direct contact with the skin, through a sapphire lens, cooled to 4 degrees Celsius with circulating liquid that passes continuously from a chiller through the handpiece. It is one of the most comfortable and safe systems around. As the light beam passes through the cooling shield and reacts with the pigment in each hair follicle, it heats the follicle to damage it and shut it down. It is effective with all skin types and hair colors except light blonde, red and gray hair. The laser works on hair in its active growth phase, or “Anagen” phase. During this phase the hair contains an abundance of pigment, which is necessary to create the reaction we are trying to achieve. Since all the hair follicles are never in the active growth phase at one time, most patients will require 4 to 6 treatments at 6 to 8 week intervals to achieve optimal results.
