Spring Skin Care – Get Ready for the New Season

  • Skin Care Regimen

By Joanna Kirshner

Off with the old and on with the new!

In order to see your new, fabulous skin for spring, you must first get rid of the old, dead, dry skin. The best way to achieve this is by taking off a few layers by using procedures such as regular peels and daily exfoliation. Tri-Active Exfoliant by iS Clinical® combines powerful botanical enzymes, salicylic acid and eco-friendly micro-beads which provide ideal physical and biochemical exfoliation. The truth is your moisturizer will not work on top of dry, dehydrated skin! So, let’s take off the old and get on with the new.

Give your skin care regime a Spring Cleaning

First thing’s first. If your goal is fresh, glowing skin, it’s time to do a little Spring cleaning. You should avoid the use of expired skin care products from the year before. This is especially an issue with sunscreen protection. Spring is the perfect time to look through all your products and swap items that need replacing.  Toss out anything with an old expiration date and stock up on brand new skin care necessities, like sunscreen, toner, face spray and moisturizer.

Brighten up for the season

Let’s face it, after a cold and wet winter, Spring is a much brighter alternative. Let’s get your skin to match this brighter season! Reduce the appearance of skin discoloration and last year’s sun-damage by applying a brightening and lightening serum to your skin every day.  A good choice is White Lightening Serum by iS Clinical®.

Update your moisturizer

Continue your regular skincare regimen but update your moisturizer.  Winter usually requires a heavier moisturizer, but now is the time to switch to something lighter.  And then don’t forget your sunscreen over the top!

The Relationship Between Your Body Composition and Your Blood Pressure

  • Body composition and blood pressure

How often do you check your body composition? Studies show that your body composition is directly related to your cardiovascular health. The higher the fat content in your body, the higher risk you have for developing high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Obesity is a known risk factor for hypertension, as well as other medical conditions. However, you can burn unnecessary fat (and reduce your risk of hypertension) with the right combination of physical activity and diet. Choosing which products to use on your skin or in your home can be simplified to one simple rule: natural/edible ingredients are best.  When it comes to toxins, taking chances with products that could harm the environment around you or your own body is not a good idea. Show Your Skin Some Love This Valentine’s Day

  • Love The Skin You're In

Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to show your skin some love!

They say that before you can love someone else you must first learn to love yourself.  We all have annoying habits and body hang-ups, but one of the hardest things to love can be your skin, particularly because other people are looking at your face all day!  In fact, a recent study found that around half of the population in the US struggles with a skin condition at some point in their lives and a large percentage of these people also develop low confidence and self-esteem as a result.  Of course, all different skin types and concerns need individualized treatments.  But, as a general rule, here are some of the ways you can start to love your skin:

Be Gentle

Did you know that skin is the largest organ of the body?  With that in mind, it’s important we treat it with care to make the most of it.  Yes, it’s true our skin is built to withstand a lot!  But don’t over-estimate just how much it can take.

Constant scrubbing, polishing and exfoliating can strip the skin of its natural oils that make up the protective outer layer, leaving it vulnerable to damage and becoming over sensitized.  Avoid over-use of stripping products and opt for a more natural method of exfoliation such as Vitamin A, in the form of Retinol or Retinoic Acid.

Vitamin A can act as a natural exfoliant – increasing skin cell turnover and renewal, while reducing the thickness of the outer “dead” skin cell layer.  Consider one of our iS ClINICAL products which have Vitamin A in them.  They are formulated with botanically-based ingredients which are naturally soothing and nourishing.

Keep in mind, Vitamin-A derivatives are also very anti-aging, anti-skin cancer and anti-wrinkle, long-term.  So, consider this as part of your anti-aging skin care routine for life!

Your Mind May Override DNA in Exercise and Eating Habits

  • Mind Over Matter

Have you ever heard the term “mind over body?” Well, one study says that our mind-sets, or mental expectations about ourselves, seem to play an equal or even greater role than our DNA in shaping some of our bodies’ reactions to diet and exercise. 5 Worst Protein Bar Ingredients

  • Candy Or Protein

Do you read the label of the protein bars you’re grabbing for your mid-day snack? It’s important to be mindful of ingredients when looking for a food alternative on the go. When you take a closer look at protein bars, some of them can even be worse for you than candy bars. For example, Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) is a very common ingredient in protein bars, and it can actually be toxic because of the way soy is processed. Get the Best Skin Ever- By Joanna Kirshner

  • Best Skin Ever

Happy New Year! It’s a new year with new beginnings and bright and shiny possibilities. So, there is no better time than the present to commit yourself to achieve the best skin ever! Great skincare will change your life, and it is such a simple way to revolutionize your health and beauty.

A few tips:

Start by cleansing your skin like you mean it. Use a cleanser that will remove the days’ dirt and makeup gently.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!  Your skin cannot grow and thrive if you are not getting rid of the old, dead skin cells lingering behind.  Just remember, unless your skin is overproducing oil and is congested, a couple of times a week is the ideal amount for exfoliation.

Don’t pick at blemishes! It only exacerbates the problem and transfers bacteria from your hand on to your face, right where you DON’T want it.

Two words- HYALURONIC ACID

I can’t stress enough the importance of keeping your skin hydrated. Hydrated skin reduces the appearances of wrinkles, which may explain why several studies show that supplementing with hyaluronic acid can make skin appear smoother.

And lastly, apply sunscreen daily!

Preferably one with dual purpose moisturizer with SPF. Choose a sunscreen that will protect your skin without irritation.

“Invest in your skin. It is going to represent you for a long time.” Give us a call to book your free consultation with Joanna today! 619.795.6700
