Melatonin and Respiratory Infection Risk in Seniors

Melatonin and Respiratory Infection Risk in Seniors

When most people hear “melatonin,” they think of a sleep-support supplement. Fair enough: the hormone is well shown to support healthy circadian rhythms and improve the quality of sleep. Thanks to melatonin’s strong antioxidant effects, however, it may also play a role in protecting us against the serious complications of respiratory tract infections.

Highly Processed Foods Linked To Weight Gain

Eating a healthy diet can help lower your risk of certain diseases and maintain a healthy weight. A healthy eating plan is made up of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. Previous studies have suggested a link between diets high in “ultra-processed” foods and health problems. Ultra-processed foods have ingredients common in industrial food manufacturing, such as hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, flavoring agents, and emulsifiers. They are often cheaper and more convenient than making a meal from whole foods. But they’re usually high in calories, salt, sugar, and fat. Click here to read more.

Do EltaMD Sunscreens Contain Benzene?

With more and more information and controversy surrounding sunscreens and their potentially harmful ingredients, it’s important to keep updated on what you could be using. Most sunscreens have avobenzone and oxybenzone, and EltaMD products do not contain these ingredients. Some physicians have asked EltaMD about the Citizen’s Petition submitted to the U.S. FDA by Valisure LLC, an independent analytical laboratory, regarding the presence of residual levels of benzene in certain sunscreens, so EltaMD wants to share an update with you.   Please read below.

EltaMD Update:

Some physicians have asked EltaMD about the Citizen’s Petition submitted to the U.S. FDA by Valisure LLC, an independent analytical laboratory, regarding the presence of residual levels of benzene in certain sunscreens, so EltaMD wants to share an update with you.

Valisure tested numerous sunscreen products, including five EltaMD sunscreens. In one of the five EltaMD products, UV Aero SPF 45, they reported finding 0.11 to 0.17 parts per million of benzene. This level is more than 11 times below the recognized International guidance adopted by the U.S. FDA for benzene as a residual solvent in drug products.

EltaMD does not use benzene as an ingredient in any of their sunscreens, and benzene was not detected in the Valisure tests of any of the other EltaMD sunscreens tested: EltaMD UV Clear, UV Shield, UV Daily and UV Pure. EltaMD has not yet confirmed the presence or the source of benzene in UV Aero.

EltaMD wants to assure you we are taking this matter very seriously. We are reviewing Valisure’s results and testing methodology as well as conducting our own investigation, including testing and working to assess possible sources of benzene.

EltaMD understands your concerns regarding the Valisure report, and we want you to know that your patients’ health, safety and trust in your counsel are our highest priorities. EltaMD sunscreens are produced under FDA’s rigorous drug regulations that establish strict requirements for the methods, facilities, and controls used in the manufacturing of drug products. The regulations — and EltaMD processes and controls – ensure that our products are safe and effective. EltaMD works relentlessly to uphold the commitment we share with you to protect the health of people.

EltaMD is deeply grateful for your continued partnership and your trust in our brand and our products.

Can A Hot Bath Deliver Some of The Same Effects as Exercise?

The term “exercise is medicine” is rightfully well publicized. It’s one of the best ways to stay healthy, yet medicine doesn’t work if you aren’t prepared to take it. Exercise adherence is very poor, with many people unwilling to exercise due to lack of time and motivation. And for those who are older or have chronic diseases, exercise can also cause pain. In effort to find such a solution, more information is emerging on how hot baths and saunas affect the body. Throughout human history, multiple cultures around the world have used heat therapy to improve health. The Effects of Virus Variants on COVID-19 Vaccines

According to Dr. Farnesi, one of the things that isn’t talked about enough in the media is the fact that the more the virus spreads and replicates in people, the more it has a chance to mutate.  Mutations happen in the process of replication of genes. So, whether it’s vaccination, wearing a mask, good ventilation, avoiding crowded places, distancing – all measures help decrease the spread and therefore replication of the virus. The more measures that are taken, the less mutations there will be. For more information, please click here: the-effects-of-virus-variants-on-covid-19-vaccines

Help Stop Restricting or Banning The Use of Compound Hormones

Dear patient,

I’m writing to let you know about a threat to patients who benefit from compounded hormone therapy (sometimes called “compounded hormone replacement therapy” or “cBHRT” or “cBHT”).

The Food & Drug Administration has signaled it may consider restricting or even banning the use of compounded hormones, not because they have proven to be unsafe — they’ve benefited patients for decades — but because they haven’t been tested the same way mass-produced hormones products have been.

(You might think that millions of women and men using them for years would be proof, but you aren’t a government agency.)

Several organizations are working to convince the FDA not to restrict these critical medications without good reason. They’re telling the FDA that customized, compounded hormone therapy is essential for many Americans whose physicians have determined they can’t use mass-produced hormone products.

One of them, the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding, is collecting patient testimonials: the stories of women and men whose lives have been improved by their hormone therapy. They’ll be using these stories as part of a campaign to convince the FDA not to take away this treatment.

What you can do:

Very easy. If you or someone you know has benefited from using compounded hormones, share your story. Simply go to compounding.com and click on “My Story.” https://compounding.com/testimonials

Every story we collect is more proof that compounded hormones work, and that they are life-changing — and sometimes even life-saving. Please share your story – to help ensure they aren’t regulated away.
